A change of pace today – starting with a sleep in – as it is Saturday morning. Then the need to explore took over again. First we found breakfast…then headed off to have a look at Manapouri – on the next lake over. Between there and Te Anau are a number of access points to part of the Kepler Track. We chose Rainbow Bay and spent two and a bit hours tramping along a forest track – two splendid swing bridges, some river views – and a stopping point at Shallow Bay. Sadly many sandflies stopped there too so we didn’t linger long.
Then back to base for a rest before venturing out to ‘The Ranch’ for dinner.
Did we mention that apart from spectacular scenery there has also been some great meals, accompanied by local ales/cider and/or some very nice white wines.
