We left the Te Anau today and travelled to the south coast of the South Island. Fjords gave way to gentle rolling farmland and a wild windy coastline.
We stopped for lunch in Riverton, New Zealand’s second oldest settlement and home to “The Best Museum in the Country”. Riverton is a beautiful little town that services a small port and passing tourists. The museum is quite good.
Twenty minutes past Riverton is Invercargill, our base for the night. It’s a big, rather shabby town full of old buildings and history. We rather liked our evening, huddled in a pub by a open fireplace sheltering from the blustery cold wind outside.
Tomorrow we hit the Catlins and head for Dunedin.
