As we approach the end of the trip, our minds begin to drift back to “real life” – I suspect we’re both ready to return to our lives, safe in the knowledge that we’ll always have New Zealand.
But today is not about reflection, we’ll save that for when we’re back. Today was about the journey from Dunedin to Christchurch.
Oamaru (about an hour and a half from Dunedin) is a most strange town – a once thriving Victorian meat port, left derelict for most of a century while a small modern township grew up clinging to either side of the highway. Now the once grand Victorian streets are being slowly reclaimed by local artisans.
We stopped for lunch at the Riverstone Cafe (about two hours from Dunedin); recommended by many people on our journey, this busy restaurant serves excellent food.
Now we are back in Christchurch – it feels a bit like coming home (which is good practice for tomorrow).
