First stop French (Cigale) markets in Parnell for breakfast and a wander. Nice market – it’s good to see fresh vegetables… and who knew about kiwi berries?
We followed up with some more walking today – around Parnell and up to the domain / Auckland museum / war museum. We’ve seen 100 year anniversary of first Anzac service notices everywhere (we’ll be in Wellington on the day). We then opted to leave the city for a while, heading north again – just a little way – to the Wenderholm regional park on a headland at the mouth of the Puhoi river. Beautiful countryside (very Cornish), a “just challenging enough” loop walk up around the headland. We met a local while resting and admiring the view, who happily chatted about how beautiful the countryside around Auckland is.
Then it was back to town to regroup and make plans the evening meal forage. We chose to leave Ponsonby and headed for Sea Cow on the Bay (Mission Bay) for fish and chips. Our first night driving / navigating expedition was successful….and the food was great. A very pleasant experience – on the waterfront – and we had the added bonus of a coloured dancing fountain doing its thing for the admiring crowds (us and some children).
On the driving – have we mentioned how crazy the traffic is here?! Narrow roads, hills and bays everywhere so no straight roads and a motorway with slips on and off right though the middle of the city. It’s nuts..and worse as a pedestrian. I will never complain about Brisbane roads again.
