We said goodbye to Wellington today after a second stint in Te Papa (one of the best museums ever) and boarded the ferry for Picton and the South Island leg of our journey.
We also revisited a favourite breakfast haunt from out last Wellington visit – Pandoro.
Then it was to the ferry we had watched come in and out for days from our vantage point at Oriental Bay. The trip was calm (despite a rough forecast), took about 4 hours and the second half was through the amazingly scenic waterways of the Marlborough Sounds. Barney spent most of the journey on deck being buffeted by the wind in the pursuit of the perfect photograph. I joined him for the last bit. It was stunning, and did l mention windy.
Picton looks to be a thriving little waterfront community – gateway to the area – so it’s off to the iSite in the morning to see what walks / natural wonders are in store for us here
