Day 20 – Queen Charlotte track and the Hilltop lookout

A new day, a new town. Picton in the morning sun (as opposed to the evening rain we saw yesterday) was quite beautiful and surprisingly busy for a tiny town on a Sunday morning. Picton is a holiday destination surrounded by stunning hills and the complex and maze like sounds of the north of the South Island.

The iSite was, as always, very helpful and we set off after a hearty breakfast to drive partway along a leg of the Queen Charlotte Sound, and to walk part of the Queen Charlotte track (one of NZ’s Great (and most affordable) Walks). We walked from Mistletoe Bay to Hilltop Lookout – which was along the track a way, then up a steeper side track. You get the idea, it was very steep but worth it for the views once we got there.

We had perfect weather again which set off the bays and islands to perfection.
