Sorry it’s been such a long time between posts. Obligatory blogging got away from me a bit.
What were we doing that kept us too busy to blog, I hear you ask? So much … Leigh’s parents visited, followed by Viv, Michael and Zola, and just recently Helene and John (who easily had the best weather). We explored more tracks, forests and national parks. We attended four local festivals of a variety of sizes (Island Bay, Petone, Newtown and Cubadupa). We’ve found more great bars and amazing restaurants and I spent some time flitting between Hamilton and Wellington working on a fascinating project.
Oh and summer? Well, we didn’t really have one (which we’re told … somewhat unconvincingly, is not typical). We had good weather sprinkled with occasional brilliant weather and very occasionally just horrid weather.
We’re both enjoying work. My job is providing me with a amazing challenges, some nice t-shirts and also some hop-hop dancing opportunities, and even a little fancy dress. I feel lucky.
And despite all that, the reality is that Wellington (and New Zealand) is becoming normal. No less wonderful, no less exciting but also just the place where we live at the moment. When we have visitors, we see the area through their eyes and we get reminded just how lucky we are; but at other times it’s just the stupidly pretty, tiny city with great coffee where we live.
Now it’s Autumn. The trees are beginning to turn … there is a very palpable crispness to the air which is adding to the new experience. We have warm clothes (honestly Icebreaker have the best sales). And so far the cooler clime is not presenting any major challenges – in fact, we’re loving it (note … we).
This Easter weekend will bring rural adventures on the South Island. Excitement.
Here are some pictures from the last couple of months.
