It’s true you can’t live here by chance

I’ve become a Wellington bore. I know, I know … this is hardly news, but I figured that in the first year it’s forgivable. New Zealand is quite different from Australia and the UK so I think it’s reasonable to be a “number one fan” during the honeymoon period.

We’re now into our second year (honeymoon period over), and as some friends return to Brisbane I realise that their ears are probably still ringing after being submitted to constant barrage of us extolling Wellington’s qualities. I mean they were here, we surely could have backed off a little … but I think that we’re just so enthused. Not that they said anything … they’re far to lovely.

We didn’t just talk at our visitors, we subjected them to many of the local sites, eateries and some really odd weather. Such torture!

We’ll work on our enthusiasm. Maybe dial it back a notch.

As I write, L’s parents are riding the train down from Auckland to stay with us for a bit. We’re very excited to have them back – we hadn’t been here long when they first came over and we’ve gotten to know this city a little better now. Also we’re in a more comfortable house, with a big garden … that needs attention … hint hint hint.

In other news, it’s New Zealand festival time (excitement) and … AND … the Muppets are coming to town! We are especially excited about this. The company I worked for is one of the sponsors for this astonishing and potentially once in a life time Muppet themed experience. Why Wellington? Well it is home to Bret McKenzie (who as well as being one half of Flight of the Conchords also wrote all the songs for the recent Muppet movies).

Yep, February is looking pretty okay.

  1. The enthusiastic support of Wellington worked! Your visitors were so enamoured with it we are now checking out Wellington real estate from across the ditch. We miss it (and our lovely hosts of course). Thanks again for your warm hospitality.
