It was early in 2013 that we first came to New Zealand. We spent a month exploring the South Island and it would be fair to say that we fell in love with it. Especially Central Otago.
Now we’re back and based on our first half day, I think it may be even more beautiful than we remembered it.

After a slow start to our Saturday, we made it to the airport in time for coffee and bagels (honestly, Wellington airport may be small but there’s no shortage of quality snacking).
An hour later we were touching down in a little bit of paradise (Queenstown). I took this picture over the wing of plane as we were touching down (which is why it’s a bit blurry).

After a little familiarisation, we were on the road to Wanaka (about an hour from Queenstown).
And that was it. Autumn colours abound, clear lakes, dramatic mountains and Wanaka – a small but extremely well appointed town in a truly stunning landscape.
We ate really great Japanese food (Sasanoki), shopped for holiday supplies and retired for the day.
