Wellington: day 1

We rose blurry eyed and stepped blinking into the morning sun. The flight was short but cramped and arrived late, around 1:00am. We made it through the usual customs and to be the hotel without a hitch before falling asleep. The late night made a getting up just a little bit harder than we’d like, but a brisk walk down Cuba street led us to Fidel’s for a pretty fabulous breakfast. Everything was better then.

Leigh was cold so we shopped in the numerous hiking outlets and procured her a fleecy bargain or two. She then found markets while I admired the view of the bay. In the afternoon we caught the cable car up to the gardens and walked back down, past the Beehive and then back to the hotel.

We then collapsed for a short while before venturing out for the evening.

Travelling is fun.

Addendum: Now back at the hotel, after exploring a new part of Wellington. Cuba Street was packed (there was a night market and free Jazz), but we didn’t stick around as we were making for Fratelli’s (a swanky Italian Restaurant). We ate slightly more than our fill and limped back to the hotel through the still bustling streets.
