It’s Sunday AND Monday

Yesterday we flew Wellington to Auckland, then Auckland to Rarotonga, and somehow landed about 15 hours before we left Wellington. The day before.

Or something.

Time loses meaning here… feels appropriate.

Rarotonga is pretty much everything you imagine a sleepy Pacific island to be… sunny, comfortably warm, green, with white beaches wrapped around a clear blue lagoon.

This morning we cycled to Titikaveka CICC Church because we’d heard Sunday services were all soaring harmonies and big hats.

They were.

I can’t remember the last time I went to church for a service… if they were all like this I might go more often.

From there we found breakfast at Au Tree, with a frankly insane outlook… white sand, blue water, palm trees, ukulele music.

I’m willing to accept the ukulele here. And only here.

We cycled on, did a supermarket shop, then headed back to our Airbnb, which also happens to sit right on the lagoon.

There was a snooze and some complaints about soreness (the roads are rough and not made with cycling in mind).

Then a wander through the lagoon, because that’s a perfectly normal thing to do here, followed by the night markets, which were… quite a thing.

Then back along the lagoon as the sun went down.

So yes. One day in and we appear to have adjusted quite well to doing very little, very slowly.

Day two we walked down the beach. Swam on clear warm water. Spotted fish. Made a friend. Had a cheese and onion toastie and learned about the geology. Bought wine and crisps and have returned to our neat Airbnb to sit on the deck and think about a next step. Or not.

Photos are here because I flatly refuse to give WhatsApp access to anything on my phone if I can help it.
